Bend Senior High Neighborhood District

The Boundaries for this school are essentially South of Hwy 20, and East of 3rd street. (As always check the district website for specifics). Bend Senior High School (BHS) has the largest high school student body size in the Bend-LaPine Administrative School District. BHS is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that offers the rigorous IB Diploma Program. They also offer Advanced Placement (AP) classes as well as Honors-level classes. They are strong in athletics as well. In fact, the female wrestling team was most recently named the 2020 Oregon Wrestling Classic
Champions! 

 

East Bend has an incredibly diverse selection of neighborhoods with a mix of new housing developments, older ranch-style homes, and an assortment of duplex and rental home investment options. The infamous Pilot Butte is a hop, skip and a jump away. Locals enjoy walking/hiking up the butte year-round, not only for a workout, but also for the breathtaking views of Mount Bachelor, the Three Sisters and the Cascade Mountain Range.

 

Juniper Swim & Fitness Center is also close by. This huge facility offers over 150 group fitness classes per week, has a 3,000 sq. ft. fitness center filled with exercise machines and equipment, and boasts three pools, including a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool. Summit High School is located on West Side of Bend and was the third traditional high school built in Bend, opening its doors to students in 2001. Summit High School is known for its academic focus and strong athletic programs. The West side of the Deschutes River is generally the boundary line for this school with it crossing over to 3rd street at some locations. (As always check the district website for specifics).


Surrounding neighborhoods include North Rim (a sustainably focused development), Northwest Crossing (a fairly self-sufficient micro-community filled with shops, restaurants and medical & dental facilities), Broken Top (a private community), and
Awbrey Butte (with amazing mountain views). Many of the homes in this area are contemporary craftsman style and modern contemporary homes with a high percentage of custom-built and luxury homes sprinkled throughout.

 

The West side of Bend has many amazing eateries such as La Rosa, Poke Row,  Portello Wine Café, Broken Top Bottle Shop and Ale Café, and Trattoria Sbandati just to name a few. This side of town is teeming with outdoor activity opportunities from hiking and mountain biking trails, multiple golf courses, the Athletic Club of Bend and so much more. Tumalo Falls, Shevlin Park, and the Deschutes River all fall within the Summit High School boundary. Mt Bachelor is a quick 30-minute drive from the West side as well, which opens high lakes and Cascade Mountains access to vehicles in the warmer,  dryer months.

Ridgeview High is a newer 5A school that was built in 2012 and a school that within its first few years has already won a state title in Football and has very strong athletic and academic programs. The boundary lines for this district are somewhat difficult to articulate but can generally be described as running from downtown Redmond on the South side of Hwy 126 and West from around Helmholtz. Tumalo and all the way to the most Northern side of Bend are included in this school boundary.

 

Much of this area is closer to Bend than it is Redmond, so for those who are looking for a bit more space, while maintaining quick easy access to everything, this could be a great option.  Much of this area is small to large acreage properties located between Bend and Redmond city limits and offer a wide range of housing sizes and styles.  Also covered in this area is the South side of Redmond, which has a large amount of new subdivisions that range from zero-barrier property lines to estate-style homes and neighborhoods.  This area is less wooded than many parts of Bend, which lends to giving expansive 360-degree views of all the mountains and hills surrounding the region.

 

This area gives quick access to everything Central Oregon has to offer, from the extensive shopping and restaurants in Bend to the rustic downtown of Sisters, quick airport access in Redmond, and even water access at both the Deschutes river and Prineville Reservoir.  Eagle Crest Resort is also located in this area which between its three amazing golf courses, holiday lighting display, and many other amenities. La Pine Highschool Neighborhood

communities such as Sunriver, Three Rivers, La Pine State Park, and more. There is a

access to everything an outdoor enthusiast may want. Whether you’re looking for snow
sports at Mt. Bachelor, wanting to golf on any of the many amazing courses in the area,

Due to the low population-density of the area, there are two high school options for part

Century Dr. goes to La Pine High. Once the new High School is built on the South side
of Bend (expected around 2022), the boundaries on the North may see a slight
adjustment. The school is a smaller rural school that has approximately 420 students.
They value the experience their students gain in and outside the classroom with
involvement in co-curricular activities through athletics, clubs, and other opportunities as well as the AVID and ASPIRE programs and their partnership with Oregon GEAR UP.

The Madras area is the largest agricultural area in Central Oregon.  Because the area is spread out over a large geographic area, it creates the need for a few different, smaller High Schools.  Culver, Madras High and Bridges Academy are all in the area as available options.  Each one has its own unique traits and features, but they all pride themselves in making the overall success of their students their top priority.  While they have some amazing sports and extra-curricular options, those never supersede the primary goal of preparing the students for the challenges of life.

 

This area is comprised primarily of acreage and agricultural properties, but still has a decent assortment of more traditional homes, neighborhoods and multifamily dwellings that can range from older starter homes, to large custom-built luxury homes.  The extra distance from this region to the larger and more densely populated Bend and Redmond area, generally gets a buyer a lot more bang for their buck. 

 

Some area attractions include Lake Billy Chinook, Madras Aquatic center, Haystack Reservoir, Indian Head Casino and more.  For those needing access to an airport, Redmond airport is about a 30-minute commute.

Mountain View High School boundaries run West from the Deschutes river and North of Hwy. 20.  They are known for having a great academic program as well as athletic programs that have produced multiple state titles in sports like cross country, alpine skiing, swimming, and water polo. They also have the well-known First Robotics Team, “The High Desert Droids.”

 

The Mt. View neighborhood has its history centered around the building of St. Charles hospital, established in 1975, which just so happens to be part of Central Oregon’s largest employer.  Neighborhood residents highly rate it as being dog-friendly, having easy and available parking, outdoor play options for kids, and scenic beauty. Notable attractions include neighboring Pilot Butte State Park, multiple dog parks, and plenty of great shopping options like Costco, Whole Foods, Pier One, Safeway, and boutique shops. This area has a wide variety of styles, sizes and ages of housing and is often considered a part of town that provides the most “bang for your buck” when shopping for real estate.  The neighborhoods directly around the school are primarily composed of craftsmen and ranch style homes on lots ranging from .10 to .5 acres.  Many of these homes were built between the 80’s and early 2000’s, although in the past 10 years there have been, and continue to be, numerous new subdivisions built providing many new homes and plans for future construction. Also, part of this area’s school district has a large amount of agricultural properties and plenty of homes on small acreage.  Many of the acreage properties in this district fall outside of the city limits yet remain in Deschutes County.
